OUR STORY

TakeOver Athletics was started in March of 2010 by Ryan and Andy, with the goal of building a community of like-minded individuals that wanted to train hard and have fun. The two friends already had several years of training and coaching experience under their belts by the time they opened their 1,000 square foot facility. Over the years the gym has expanded to four locations in Virginia Beach serving several hundred members and a dozen experienced coaches.

Although we have grown quite a bit since the early days, special emphasis has been placed on maintaining a tight community where group interaction and encouragement is of the highest importance. We take pride in the fact that our community at TakeOver Athletics is made up of members from all different types of fitness and athletic backgrounds. A regular class is often comprised of former or current competitive athletes, grandparents and retirees, military personnel and business professionals. Although their abilities and goals may differ they all share the the same desire to improve their overall level of health and fitness.

Since day one Ryan and Andy believed that the benefits of physical training far exceed scores on a white board or changes in the mirror. The goal at TakeOver has and always will be not to just get better at training, but better at life!

OUR APPROACH

TakeOver Athletics includes general strength and conditioning programs suitable for all fitness levels and backgrounds. Our workouts consist of constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity. This means that our workouts are always seemingly different and not the same old gym routine.

We use natural movement patterns such as pulling, pushing, squatting, and jumping to improve our overall fitness. Lastly, most workouts are done quickly and rarely last over 20 minutes. In fact our classes run in 60-minute blocks throughout the day ensuring that you can find time to join us no matter what your day throws at you. 

Every workout we prescribe is completely scalable, which means that the most veteran and newest athlete can do the same workout with small adjustments. Our training in general is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for all individuals regardless of experience.

Group Training: Group training is the perfect way to stay motivated, challenge yourself, and have fun while you get fit. Our expert coaches lead dynamic and engaging workouts designed to push you to your limits, while also keeping you safe and supported. In a group setting, you’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals, who will encourage and inspire you to reach your goals. Plus, with group workouts that are constantly varied, you’ll never get bored or stuck in a fitness rut.

Whether you prefer high-intensity interval training, weightlifting, endurance training, bodybuilding, gymnastics—or anything in between, there’s something for everyone. By joining our group training program, you’ll not only improve your physical fitness, but also build a supportive community, making the journey to a healthier you that much more enjoyable.

Our group classes include a skill based warm-up, skill or strength work, group instruction and the Workout of the Day. All portions of the class are guided by a coach who will ensure every member in the class is utilizing proper technique and weight.

Personal Training: Personal training sessions are an effective way to achieve your individual fitness goals in an accelerated manner. We understand that everyone’s fitness journey is unique. That’s why our personal training services are designed to provide you with personalized attention and support, tailored to your individual goals and needs.

During your initial consultation, one of our experienced trainers will get to know you and your fitness background, assess your current level, and help you set achievable and measurable goals. With a personalized workout plan created just for you, and the undivided attention of your trainer, you’ll experience faster and more effective results than you would in a group fitness class.

Whether you’re looking to improve your strength, flexibility, endurance, or simply get on the right track with a healthy lifestyle, our personal training services have got you covered.

Semi-Private Training: At TakeOver Athletics, we understand that not everyone is comfortable working out in a group setting. That’s why we offer semi-private training for 2 to 5 participants. Our semi-private training sessions allow you to get the attention and personalized coaching of a personal trainer, while also getting the motivation and accountability of working out with a small group.

You’ll be able to set and achieve your fitness goals with the support of like-minded individuals who are on a similar journey. Whether you’re looking to get in shape, recover from an injury, or simply want to improve your fitness, our experienced trainers will work with you and your small group to design a customized workout plan that fits your needs and helps you reach your goals.

Nutrition Coaching: Starting your fitness journey with us means you’ll have the opportunity to not just transform your body, but to also nourish it with our expert nutrition services. Our program includes a comprehensive assessment to give you a clear understanding of your current health status and set personalized goals.

During your initial consultation with one of our experienced nutrition coaches, you’ll learn about how to fuel your body for maximum results, both in and outside of the gym.

24-Hour Open Gym Access: We understand that life can be hectic and finding time to work out can be a challenge. That’s why we offer 24-hour open gym access at two convenient locations in Virginia Beach. Open gym access can be a standalone membership selection, or it can be added onto your membership for group classes.

With this service, you’ll have the flexibility to work out whenever it suits your schedule, whether that’s before dawn, late at night, or any time in between. Whether you prefer the structure and support of our group classes, or the freedom and flexibility of open gym, you’ll have the option to choose the workout experience that works best for you.

Our facilities are equipped with everything you need to achieve your fitness goals. With 24-hour access, you’ll never have to miss a workout, no matter how busy your schedule.

Note; Open Gym access is not available at our First Landing location during class times.

Kids + Teens Programs: We believe in fostering a love for fitness and wellness from a young age. That’s why we offer a variety of programs designed specifically for kids and teens, including group fitness classes, youth training for sports teams, and personal training for young athletes.

Our experienced coaches and trainers are passionate about helping young people develop strong bodies and healthy habits, and will provide them with the guidance, support, and encouragement they need to reach their goals. Whether your child is looking to build strength, improve their endurance, or simply have fun while staying active, our programs are the perfect fit.

Team Training: At TakeOver Athletics, we understand that fitness and wellness are not just individual pursuits but can also be collective endeavors. That’s why we offer several options for group private training, including corporate wellness training for groups of up to 30 participants, athletic team training, and small group training.
